What Do You Do for Back Pain? I Can’t Sit For Long!

Uh-oh! I was up most of last night squirming and tossing and turning while in tremendous back pain after sitting on a stiff couch for the last two days during an amazing mastermind with Lisa Sasevich. Although I’m eager to serve you better and I have numerous exciting things planned to serve you, right now I’m dealing with monster back pain.

back painYikes! I haven’t had this kind of utterly crippling, optimism-smashing, shed-a-few-self-pity tears pain since around 2005 or 2006, after writing and editing my first book, Sugar Shock.

Let’s face it. A large part of my huge back pain is my own darn fault!

Back pain is nothing new to me. It’s probably nothing new to anyone else either, we all suffer with it from time to time. I know a few people who have gone to places like CK Physiotherapy to help them with their back pain, but I also know a few people who just try and do exercise to help their pain. You should probably first figure out why you have back pain though and go from there.

After writing Sugar Shock years ago, I’ve never known so much back pain. (The pain was caused by my sitting in front of the computer for too long and not getting up every half hour to do back stretches and other moves. That’s what my healers advised.)

That was when I first heard the phrase that Sitting is the New Smoking. So I know better!

So for about a decade, I’ve known the urgency of Smart Back Care.

But for two days this week, I simply forgot.

Here are a few healthy, natural, non-pharmaceutical Back Care Techniques I’m doing.

    1.  I’m icing a lot!
    2. I’m getting up often to stretch, do wall squats, etc..
    3.  I’m using either my special writing cushion or my exercise ball. Now, I’m sitting on my medicine ball so I can sit long enough to write this.
    4. I’m about to see the acupuncturist.
    5. I did EMDR and tapping.
    6. I’m going to get Woebenzyme.
    7. I may buy one of those standing desks.
  1. And I’m coming to you for ideas. What do you suggest I do?

Please, for Let’s Connect Wednesday, share your ideas. (This is for my new feature, Let’s Connect Wednesday.)

What are your best tips, ideas, and suggestions for natural ways to heal back pain?

For instance, I spent much of the night (in between tossing and turning in pain) on my amazing Spoonk (more about that on Fabulous Find Friday).

What natural things do you suggest to deal with back pain? If you’re experiencing back pain, consider replacing your mattress. After reading the best mattress for back pain post from Review.org, I decided to splurge on a Novosbed and my back has thanked me for it (no more waking up with an achy back in the morning was worth the $899 price tag.)

What do you recommend to do for severe lower back pain? Write your comments below, on this blog. or on Facebook.

  1. Two things
    1. Sofas are best for putting out on the street with a FREE sign – they eat backs.
    2. Lose the sitting desk. I have been at a standing workstation for over 2 years and I’ll never go back.
    3. Keep the lower curve in your lumbar spine. This is a natural need for the spine. The desk chair and the sofa reverse it to the point of pain.

You can sit on the edge of a chair and keep that natural serpentine curve in the lumbar spine. It changes everything. If you ever find that section of your spine curved away from your belly, you have back pain in your future.

  2. Hello Connie, I have X2 bulging lumber discs + Osteoarthritis in my Lower Lumber region I have had X3 Steroidal injections which really didn’t help me, Then my Back Consultant tried me on Morphine Patches,
you stick to your skin for 7 days up to 20mg daily and not much pain relief, So i’m Now starting on the prolong 12hr Morphine Tablets 15mg I can go up to 200mg a day so we will see But doing my research and I think it really help is taking MSM But a 100% pure Organic product on Amazon i’ll but the link for the product below for everyone But I believe it is helping me,

    https://www.amazon.com/Kala-Health-Supplement-Methylsulfonylmethane-Additives/dp/B000NPKFCA/ref=sr_1_2_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1481141625&sr=8-2&keywords=kala+health+msm&th=1

And I’ve been told That (Apple Cider Vinegar) Is also Good for Back pain and Arthritis + the product I’ve been using is the Organic (Bragg) Unfiltered, Unpasteurized + most importantly it has to have (With The Mother) which means, The cloudily stuff at the bottom you just shack it up to mix it here’s the link for it below,

    https://www.amazon.com/Bragg-Organic-Apple-Cider-Vinegar/dp/B01EW16TCK/ref=sr_tnr_p_1_6485901011_1_s_it?s=grocery&ie=UTF8&qid=1481142003&sr=1-1&keywords=braggs+apple+cider+vinegar

These are the two products I’ve been using and have found it helps my back pains as my Morphine levels have not been changed yet so the pain relief must be down to these products,

I hope sharing this information helps people with back pain.

    nick.

  3. Hi Connie. My name is Mike Duke. You were asking about relief for back pain. I have scoliosis, and RA. When I ache when I wake up, I roll onto my stomach, Keep my lower Abdomen and Hips on the bed, Put my hands under my shoulders and push my upper body up off the bed until my arms are straight. Do that about 10 or 12 times for a couple of days and you should be good to go.
    Hugs and kisses,
    Mike

  4. Hi Connie, I hope you’re feeling better by now! These are all great suggestions. Doing yoga regularly is also helpful to strengthen the back. But I love all of your suggestions!

  5. Please check out the work of Esther Gokhale. Her premise is that our modern society has forgotten what good posture is, leading many people to experience low back pain. Good, pain-free posture can still be found in primitive societies.
She has written a book, 8 Steps to a Pain Free Back, and has a website with much information.
