“Bad Eaters,” Not “Bad Foods,” Cause Obesity, TV Host Claims

"Food doesn’t make you fat. Unless you overeat it. Okay, I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the jist of what Food Network TV host Alton Brown (“Iron Chef America” and "Good Eats") said, according to Food Navigator.com.

"Food doesn’t get up and jump down our throats," said Brown, while giving the keynote address at the annual conference for the Institute of Food Technologists.

Well, that’s true, but one could make the same argument that, “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” It’s a bit simplistic and unrealistic to blame people for eating junk food, when we’re all perpetually bombarded with inescapable advertisements for sugary cereals and fat-laden “health bars" and other junk foods.

While Brown talked about how bad eating habits are to blame for many health problems, he did note that some foods aren’t exactly good for you.

“Unhealthy food is the food designed to keep you away from good food,” he said.

The TV host noted, for example, that 75 poor-quality cookies that could keep people from consuming just two, better-quality cookies. (Actually, you can’t exactly call most cookies nutritious.)

‘Course, I would go a step further and say that those two gourmet cookies are distracting you from 50 grapes, but that’s just me.
