California Plays Host to Health & Obesity Conference

Keep your eyes on California on Thursday, when the state plays host to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Summit on Health, Nutrition and Obesity, which is expected to result in new public and private initiatives to battle obesity.

California, like the rest of the country, has experienced an unprecedented increase in obesity. The prevalence of overweight Californians has risen from 38 percent in 1984 to 57 percent in 2003.

Sounds like an interesting event in the state where I was born and raised.

The "Action Summit" is bringing together CEOs of Fortune 500 food and beverage companies, leading experts in health, transportation and education, as well some high-profile people like Dr. Phil McGraw, host of Dr. Phil; and New York Times bestselling author Dr. Mehmet Oz, co-author of You: The Owner’s Manual.
