Announcing: Special Kick-Sugar Prizes for SUGAR SHOCK! Blog Readers in Honor of One-Year Anniversary

I do entertain myself at times. It’s simply hard to believe that I was so busy with book work, graduating from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, and trying to take some desperately needed R & R that I simply forgot to wish my blog happy birthday on June 7!

So, seeing as I’m the one who missed my own blog’s one-year anniversary, I’d like to be the first to wish my SUGAR SHOCK! Blog a healthy, thriving, huge-audience-reading future!

Wanna see how it all began? Here’s my very first entry on June 7, 2005.

To celebrate the birth of my blog, I will give out 10 prizes to the first 10 people who post comments to this blog item:

  • 5 winners get free downloads to my recent 10-week Fast-Track, Kick-Sugar Countdown Program™ tele-seminars, which featured such experts as Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman (Get the Sugar Out), Dr. Fred Pescatore (The Hamptons Diet), and Dr. Nancy Appleton (Lick the Sugar Habit).
  • 2 winners will get free downloads to the two-part, stress-reduction tele-seminar program with progressive, cutting-edge, board-certified family physician Jill R. Baron. Get more info here about Dr. Jill Baron’s Don’t Mess With Stress™ Seminar
  • 3 winners will get free memberships to my upcoming 4-week tele-seminar series featuring The 21-Day, Kick-Sugar Countdown Diet™. (This will include 4 workshops via phone, plus e-mail support, which include audio messages). Begins in September.

To win, you need to be the first 10 people to submit thoughtful comments to this blog about a topic I recently covered. (Please only apply if you haven’t won an award previously from me.)

Don’t worry: You don’t need to be brilliant to win. Just share your ideas with us relating to a blog entry.

In honor of my blog’s one-year anniversary, this is just a fun way to get you wonderful readers to help me make my SUGAR SHOCK! Blog a more exciting, provocative home.

Remember: The first 10 people to post comments will win. (But bear in mind no spamming is allowed and no making a remark just to send people to other websites is permitted, either.) I look forward to hearing from you.

  1. It’s unspeakably sad that almost half the states in this country don’t provide basic nutrition for our children. How can they possibly expect kids to grow intellectually when they are lacking the essentials for physical growth?

  2. Congratulations on your anniversary. I have found your site to be very helpful in my own quest to kick sugar. I was especially impressed that you shared with us your own recent weight gain and the need to get on top of it right away. It helps to know that even the experts in this area face the same temptations we face. And I really appreciate knowing that you want our support as much as we want yours. Thanks!

  3. In regards to your post on junk food in schools- I see a trend in my patient population. In elementary and junior high school is where the main problem about junk food eating occurs. High school is where obese children actually do not eat, as they dont want to be seen eating in front of their peers. Instead, they usually skip breakfast, skip lunch, and then binge at home afterschool. A lot of effort has been made in the high schools, but I believe the stronger effort must be made in the primary schools.

  4. Hearty congratulations, Connie! You are to be commended for the excellent work you are doing on behalf of recovering sugar addicts worldwide. KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB!!!

  5. Thanks for your dedication to help those of us who are struggling with sugar addiction. I have found the information you provide has helped me in my struggle. Intellectually, I know of the harm sugar can do, but overcoming the addiction is difficult. I am anxiously awaiting your book.

  6. I don’t remember how I came to this Web site, but it seemed like a “sign.” I have not yet started the process of kicking the sugar habit, but based on what I’ve read here, seems like I’ve got many of the “symptoms.” Happy One Year Anniversary… and here’s to many more sugar-free years!

  7. I have just in the past 2 weeks decided to get off sugar and then found you and your yahoo group. All I can say is thank goodness! Having the online support is amazing. I am not off all sugars yet but I haven’t had any junk food in 2 weeks, which is amazing for someone that ate 2 or 3 candy bars a day. I hope to lose weight but am much more looking forward to sanity. My husband and I have spent many hours in discussion trying to find the help I need for my mood swings. I cannot take antidepressants — I have horrible reactions. I really hope I can succeed in this and that I can finally find some peace. Thank you for putting this information out there!
As for the school food issue, it still amazes me that teachers and principals cannot make the connection between food and behavior. Recently someone asked our principal about the nutritional value of the snacks served to the preschoolers. We were told that the honeybuns, ice cream, multi-colored Rice Krispies snacks and sugary yogurt they receive twice a day were “the same nutritious snacks they’ve always served.” I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time.
At least they don’t sell sodas and snacks to the kids so I can in some way monitor them. I hope to, along with some other sugar-savvy parents, teach our school system a few things about the effects of nutrition.
Note from Connie: Wow, what an e-mail! So glad you’re getting help and that you like my Yahoo KickSugar group. Your story about the “nutritious snacks” they’re serving in school is, well, laugable? Nutritious? Yeah, right! …We’re working on getting good information about there. Maybe when my book comes out, you can get your school to buy some copies?! LOL!

  8. Hi Connie and Happy Anniversary! I thank you for all the hard work and information on this site. I look forward to the new book.
I come back to this site time and time again in my quest to help my family and myself kick sugar. Today, I’m looking for info that I can take back to the dental office I work at.
I’m on a mission to educate my patients and co-workers on the dangers of artificial sweetners and refined sugars. It is amazing to me that our educated dentists think it is ok to consume artificially sweetened candies and gums [while] trying to reduce tooth decay.
What is wrong with telling patients not to eat any type of junk food? So many of them are amazed when I tell them that their eating habits are directly related to their oral health. Very frustrating. I will be recommending this book to many people when it comes out! Thanks again! Allison

  9. Hi Connie,
I found you through a Yahoo group for the South Beach Diet. A group member told us of your website that had a published list of no-sugar foods. Thank you for that. I am type 2 diabetes, overweight, and I have been off of sugar for 1 week, now and I can honestly say, I don’t miss it. I am off sugar due to the South Beach Diet. It seems that once you kick sugar for a while, the cravings seem to disappear. Thhat book really opened my eyes to the dangers of all the refined sugar in almost everything we eat! I was shocked to say the least. I am sure many Americans do NOT know that the food companies put all that sugar into our foods. Your book will be eye opening to many. I look forward to your book in January, and I just bet it hits the top 10 bestseller list!! Thank you for all the research you have done to compile the book.
    Brenda
Note from Connie: Thanks, Brenda. It means a lot. I do hope to help millions!

  10. When I was in my late 20’s, back in the late 1970’s, I developed dizziness, brain fog, difficulty in concentration, vertigo and strange off-balance symptoms. After many years and many unhelpful visits to different doctors, I began to wonder if my problem might be artificial sweeteners. To make a very long story short, about two years ago I finally completely eliminated all artificial sweeteners, and after several months my symptoms began to subside. Waiting several months to notice progress was very difficult, as it seemed at first that there was going to be no connection between the sweeteners and the symptoms. But I kept at it, figuring that after more than 30 years of ingesting that horrible stuff, it would take a long time to get it out of my tissues and organs. I was right! Now, I would say that I’m about 95 percent free of symptoms and it has been an amazing turnaround for me. It’s been incredible, and I feel so much better, like I’ve gotten my life back. I want to shout from the rooftops to everyone I know to please stay totally away from those toxic poisons. My next step is to eliminate the real sugar. The journey continues!
