Connie Bennett is a former sugar-addicted journalist and the author of two bestselling books, Beyond Sugar Shock and Sugar Shock, Connie’s sour-to-sweet story began in 1998, when she quit sugar on doctor’s orders. Her doctor blamed all 44 of her strange ailments (baffling brain fog, ferocious fatigue, horrible headaches, embarrassing mood swings, severe PMS, etc.) on her habit of eating hard candies, red licorice, refined crackers, and other quickie carbs. While releasing her sugar and carb addiction, Connie created many simple tactics to make letting go of sweets an easy, exciting adventure.
Since 2001, Connie has been helping thousands of sugar addicts worldwide through her Sugar Freedom Now Course, speaking, and coaching (she is a certified life coach, certified health coach and EFT practitioner). She founded this Sugar Shock Blog on June 7, 2005.

Previous volunteers and interns have found this to be powerful in helping them to lick sugar or another bad habit (what I call a “babit”). Praise for Beyond Sugar Shock: Dr. Wayne Dyer, Brian Tracy, Dr. Daniel Amen, Dr. Bernie Siegel, Dr. Christiane Northrup, Etc. Endorsed My Upcoming Book — Pre-Order It Now & Get Complimentary Strategy Session

Advance buzz is building for my upcoming book, Beyond Sugar Shock.
This book — which is being published in June in the United States, Canada and Great Britain by Hay House — has been endorsed by a Who’s Who of health and empowerment experts.
Those who’ve praised this follow-up to my first book, Sugar Shock, include such empowering, motivational speakers and authors as Dr. Bernie Siegel, Brian Tracy, Dr. Joe Vitale, Marci Shimoff, John Assaraf, Janet Bray Atwood, and Brian Alman, Ph.D.
Dr. Wayne Dyer also recently endorsed my book, which you can read about here.
Nutrition gurus Dr. JJ Virgin, Dr. Oz Garcia, Dr. Jonny Bowden, Ann Cooper, Marc David, and Mark Sisson also said kind words about Beyond Sugar Shock, which offers you a fun, simple, compassionate six-week Mind-Body-Spirit adventure to easily and effortlessly release your sugar addiction.
In the book, I take you by the hand, so to speak, and coach you to Sugar Freedom so that by the time you finish the book, you’re now leading a life that’s sweeterlicious (that’s my word for delicious, combined with scrumptious, delicious, and of course, sweet).
Even fellow sugar experts have been kind enough to praise it–which gives me such profound joy.
I bow my head in gratitude to such amazing authors of sugar books or programs as Jeff O’Connell (to your left), Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum, Richard J. Johnson, M.D., Jill Escher, and Kathie Dolgin (a.k.a. “High Voltage”), to whom I’m so grateful for writing endorsements for Beyond Sugar Shock.
These sugar gurus are on the cutting edge. Because of them, you’re getting educated, motivated, and convinced of sugar’s dangers. Kathie (High Voltage) has even aimed her sights on today’s youth — she’s running the first sugar-free school in New York City.
It’s also been an honor to have several authors published by Hay House (my publisher) offer endorsements.
A very special thanks go to Dr. Christiane Northrup (see photo to your left), Colette Baron-Reid, Dr. Ken Druck, Donna Gates, Lauren Mackler, and CarolineSutherland.
When you’re an author of a health book, it’s quite gratifying when highly respected medical professionals say kind things. Naturally, I’m now thrilled that the esteemed bestselling authors Dr. Daniel Amen and Dr. Carolyn Dean endorsed my book, as have Dr. Roberta Lee, Dr. Jill R. Baron, and acupuncturist Roberta Mittman.
Furthermore, I’m also humbled and thankful that one of my mentors and heroes, Joshua Rosenthal, founder and director of the remarkable Institute for Integrative Nutrition (where I attended school to become a certified health coach), wrote the foreword to Beyond Sugar Shock. (Soon, you’ll be able to download an advance look at this foreword from Joshua.)
Furthermore, I’m thankful that several colleagues from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) — Jared Koch, Alex Jamieson, Stacey Morganstern, Carey Peters — who are all accomplishing amazing things — were kind enough to endorse Beyond Sugar Shock.
Much to my joy, the two people who helped me the most when I was a raging sugar addict in 1998 also endorsed Beyond Sugar Shock. To this day, I’m so grateful to Roberta Ruggiero, founder of the Hypoglycemia Support Foundation, and Dr. Keith DeOrio, who were both instrumental in my succes.
Furthermore, amazing fitness gurus Kathy Smith (see left photo) and Patricia Moreno; relationship experts Dr. Diana Kirschner and Debra Berndt; and anti-aging expert Cynthia Rowland also praised Beyond Sugar Shock.
I am so grateful!
In fact, I owe this book to so many wonderful people, especially journalist Dana Kennedy. The founder of www.AYearWithoutCandy.com was kind enough to insist that it was time to get going with this book.

Interns, Volunteers & Assistant Sought: Get Free Coaching

Please help me so I can help milliions of people.
Please help spread the word that I’m seeking gregarious, health-minded, warm, compassionate, positive-thinking, dedicated, gregarious, hard-working people –of any age or sex — to serve as my interns or volunteers. I also need an assistant (paid) to help coordinate everything.
Internship and volunteer positions are available immediately. Please contact me now if you know someone or you’re interested yourself.
At present, I’m seeking interns for the following positions:
* Assistant Radio Producer Intern for Gab with the Gurus Radio Show. For my radio show, I interview experts in a variety of fields, including health, personal empowerment, relationships, fitness and social media. Guests have included Suzanne Somers, Lisa Rinna, internet guru Robert Scoble, Montel Williams, Marcy Shimoff and many more. Intern would help book guests, write press releases about upcoming shows, tweet quotable comments during shows, spread the word about shows on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, take notes during and after show (transcribing quotable stuff) and verify quotes when used later. Ideal for journalism or grad school credit. Experience needed in writing, journalism and social media (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn). Unpaid position, but you will get weekly, group coaching — life or health coaching.)
* Social Media & Social Network Coordinator Intern: This person would help grow my new Beyond Sugar Shock & Smart Habits Community on the Blog Frog. Experience in blogging, social media and writing required. Unpaid position, but you’ll get weekly group coaching and valuable experience.
* Research Assistant & Writer Intern: Conduct research and writing as needed for my articles and sidebars for next book. Journalism experience is needed. Unpaid position, but ideal for school credit and a great item to add to your resume. You’ll also get group coaching.
* Blogger Intern: Need rsearcher/writer for my 3 blogs — Sugar Shock Blog, Write a Book Before You Die and Gab with the Gurus Blog. They would also post pieces that I’ve written to my Huffington Post and Psychology Today blogs.
* Graphic Design Intern: This person would help update or set up small sales sites. Experience required. You also get group coaching.
* Video Coordinator Intern: This person, ideally a video student, would shoot videos and oversee their production and posting on my two YouTube channels. You’ll get group coaching, too.
* Author’s Assistant: Help book speaking engagements, coordinate my schedule, plan and implement my teleseminar programs, develop my affiliate program, repost blog items, assist during my workshops, help members of my programs, and more. Paid position. Coaching offered, too.
In addition, I’m seeking Valuable Volunteers. In this instance, it’s ideal if you have or have overcome a sugar addiction. Health coaches and counselors are welcome to apply.
* Leaders for my Stop Sugar Shock & Smart Habits Community: We need several people to help manage the conversations on the new Stop Sugar Shock & Smart Habits Community on The Blog Frog. (This replaces both www.StopSugarShock.com — now on Ning until Aug. 20, when they convert to a paid program and KickSugar on Yahoo. Volunteer positions, but you’ll get weekly group coaching. Having sugar issues is fine, because you’ll be able to speak kindly and compassionately to fellow members.
Know anyone? Write to me now.
All candidates must possess:
* A strong interest in health, wellness and fitness. (It’s OK to have a sugar addiction or weight challenges now, but you must be committed to changing and to giving feedback on my programs so I can help people like you. The coaching will help you.)
* A strong desire to help others and to give back.
* A love for books and cutting-edge programs.
* An optimistic attitude.
* A belief in the Law of Attraction.
* Some familiarity with my book Sugar Shock!, my Gab with the Gurus Radio Show, my Sugar Shock Blog, my Facebook page, Tweets as the Smart Habits Girl, LinkedIn, etc. (It’s OK if you’re still learning about me and my work)
Help 2170495422_88e0e7566e If interested in any of the above positions, please contact me immediately.
Wondering who’s been doing all of these things? Yours truly!
Obviously, I’ve neglected a number of these projects at any given time, because there’s so much to do, and I’m just one person. It’s been a while since I’ve had assistants.
Also, as I’ve shared here recently, I’m still recovering from smashing into glass on July 4 and my concussive symptoms such as headaches.
And, frankly, I need MORE time for me so I can serve you better and more efficiently. Plus, I’ll be happier and more fulfilled, which will beneift you.
How can I ever follow the fabulous advice of Cheryl Richardson to develop The Art of Extreme Self-Care if I’m working so hard?
Do you know someone who could help me out? Please let me know ASAP. And please spread the word, too, to qualified people.

This is my second coaching certification. I’m also certified as a Certified Professional Coach from iPEC (the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching), CPC Logo small the acclaimed, rigorous program where I studied to become a life coach.
In addition, I’m a certified health coach, thanks to the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN), where I also studied.
Now that I’m triple certified and have years of wonderful “pre-succeeding experience” (heck, call it “failing”) to quit sugar, kick other bad habits or write my first book, I’m more than ready to help more people.

By the way, for those of you who would like to become a health coach and life coach, I highly recommend both the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching (iPEC) and the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN). If you’d like to study at either institution, just tell them that Connie Bennett sent you. Please note that I do get a referral compensation from both places. However, I would praise iPEC and IIN even if they weren’t nice enough to compensate me.
Both iPEC and IIN and utterly amazing places. So if you want to be a certified life coach or certified health coach, I recommend that you act immediately by calling either iPEC and/or IIN.

Megan Confronts Cake in a Letter

Often, when I’m coaching clients to kick their sugar addiction, I’m hit by moments of intuition as to what may help people. (In coaching school with iPEC, they taught us to honor, respect and look for those flashes.)
So last Wednesday, during one of my Break-Free Group Coaching sessions, the idea hit me out of the blue that members might be helped if they wrote a letter or poem to their favorite sweets.
I then asked members what they thought of the idea of doing this. (I never give assignments.)
On Friday, Megan Bozman, one of our members, ran with the idea and wrote a brilliant, insightful, poignant letter while tempted by a cake at work.
She then confided to us (the group members and me): “B-day cake, vanilla with white icing is one of my #1 fav sweets — and that happens to be EXACTLY what is in our conference room right now, about 5 feet from my desk. So I figure it’s a good time to write that letter to my fav sweet (which, as of Wed night, I was already planning on making white b-day cake!)”
White-cake Here’s how Meg confronted Cake — a letter I’m republishing with her permission:
“Dear Cake,
“It’s not you; it’s me. I am aware this is cliched, but it is the truth in this case. You are not an evil entity.
“While you are a nutritional wasteland, you are not evil in moderation. I still plan to welcome you into my home to celebrate my son’s birthdays and other such occasions.
“Again, it’s not you; it’s me. Something in me doesn’t react well to you & I realize this. You are fantastic during the too-brief time I get to enjoy you. Ecstatic & wonderful.
“But too often, before I even finish swallowing the last bite, I just want more! Then, I still want more and more and more. That is where the evil comes into play… it is in large quantities that you become evil.
“And I won’t waste time elaborating on why large quantities of you are bad. That doesn’t bear repeating.
“When I get ensnared by your addictive properties, I feel terrible; both physically & emotionally. The feeling of being hooked is dreadful. For one thing, it’s just simply embarrassing! It also has a negative effect on my self-esteem (really, I can’t `just say no’ & only eat a moderate amount?! What is wrong with me?)
“I don’t have some of the negative effects some experience such as stomach pains, yeast infections, skin problems, & blood sugar crashes causing a rapid decline in both energy & mood. However, I feel bloated, fat, and, well, gross. Feeling fat & gross makes me feel ugly. It’s just bad; just all around bad.
“So there you sit in the conference room. I’m sure others will enjoy you — don’t fret. Cake rarely goes uneaten in any office. But for now, I’m 10 days sweets-free & intend to go another 11 days for a round 3 weeks. At that point, I’m thinking I’ll stick to a serving of dessert or sweets once every 3 weeks.
Ta ta,
Meg”
Megan then told us that she shared her Letter to Cake with her husband, who came back with a hilarious response. He wrote:
