If you’ve ever felt hooked on sweets or processed carbs (carbage or carb garbage), you’ll relate to my tale.
I was once an anxious, overworked journalist, who “used” carbage to get a much-needed buzz to meet my many article deadlines. At the time, I was walloped by a whopping 44 baffling ailments, from crushing fatigue to ferocious headaches to baffling brain fog.
For years, I left a trail of perplexed doctors, who had the wrong answers. Finally, I finally found a smart physician, who diagnosed severe reactive hypoglycemia and advised me to quit sugar and ultra-processed carbohydrates. Reluctantly, I follow his repugnant advice. Then came the startling surprise: Within days of cutting out carbage, all symptoms vanished! Suddenly, I felt reborn! Seriously! I was thrilled, excited, and energized.
As my health improved, I became driven to discover how just changing what I ate could lead to my feeling so much better. Fast forward. My fascination led to my first book, Sugar Shock!: How Sweets and Simple Carbs Can Derail Your Life–And How You Can Get Back on Track (Berkley Books). It was endorsed by a who’s who of health experts and quickly became a bestseller.
Suddenly, sugar was in the news. Members of the media, readers, and fans reached out to me from various parts of the country and world. Mostly, they wanted to know: What were my secrets to letting sugar go? How had I done what to many seemed downright impossible?
By this time, I already was a Certified Health Coach (Institute for Integrative Nutrition) and life coach (iPEC). My goal? To help sugar addicts worldwide with my Sugar Freedom Course. Then came my second book, Beyond Sugar Shock: The 6-Week Plan to Break Free of Your Sugar Addiction & Get Slimmer, Sexier & Sweeter (Hay House), which soon became an international bestseller and also was praised by many experts.
But then life happened. Just I was completing Beyond Sugar Shock, my mother became terminally ill. What followed next was the most grueling, gut-wrenching, heartbreaking year of my life. After I moved across country to be with my dying Mom, as the cancer spread, she wasn’t — to put it politely — her charming self.
You may be wondering: “Is this book for me?” That was my intention: Help you Bounce Back Boldly™, as I put it. Based on the reactions of many readers, I Blew My Diet! Now What? will open your eyes in many ways. You’ll discover why you ate badly (there are 21 reasons), how to use simple, but powerful tools to make peace with junk foods, take back your power, and select better foods when temptation strikes. After you read my book, please let me know what you think. I’d love to know what you found most helpful. And please post a review on Amazon, so others will know how it can help them, too. I look forward to helping you and to hearing from you.
