Halloween Fairy: Has She Visited Your House Yet to Pick Up Candies & Leave Gifts Instead?

I just had to share this fascinating e-mail I received from Karly of First Ourselves, whose kick-sugar success story was featured here in August.

Karly has developed an innovative approach to dealing with leftover Halloween candy.

"Dear
Connie,

"…I thought your readers might be interested in my
post-Halloween sugar trick. On Halloween night, the `Halloween Fairy’ visits our
home and takes away the candy that our children collected trick or treating. (…They are each allowed a few pieces on Halloween night itself.’)"

Wait. Don’t feel sorry for the kiddies yet. Because, the Halloween Fairy is quite generous.

"In [place of candy], [the Halloween Fairy] leaves a small gift: a book, a coloring book and colored
pencils, or stationary, for example."

This Halloween Fairy generosity goes over big with Karly’s kids, too.

"My
children love this, and even my eldest, who, at 10, has probably discovered who
the Halloween Fairy really is, insisted that the Halloween Fairy visit this
year. Contrary to popular belief, my children don’t mind surrendering their
candy, and they look forward to being the first one awake November 1st to see what
the Halloween Fairy left them.

"Best, Karly"

Isn’t this a cool idea?
