Today, I am humbled, honored and touched by the most poignant, touching letter that I received from a reader of my book SUGAR SHOCK!
This letter brought tears to my eyes. I do hope that it inspires you to realize that eliminating sugar and refined carbs, along with other smart lifestyle choices, can help bring you good health and keep away cancer.
Here's what I heard from Carolyn:
"Connie, I wish you had written SUGAR SHOCK! many years ago. I think it would have really helped my husband stop drinking. He was a health care professional, and if your book would have been available explaining the real reason why he drank, he probably would have stopped.
"My husband was not only addicted to alcohol, but to candy, sweets and
refined carbs like white bread, rice, and most of all, pasta. He died
in 2005 of pancreatic cancer — a direct result of years of sugar and
alcohol damage to his body.
Carolyn continued: "Your book was a turning point for me, because as once I read it, I forgave
him. I understood after reading it that he had an addiction that was
food related, which led to the alcoholism.
"My husband suffered from depression his entire life. i don't think he understood why he was so depressed. I think his problem started way back `in utero' as his mother was a baking champion in the Midwest. She was always winning blue ribbons at county fairs for her fabulous pies, cakes, cinnamon rolls, and yeast dinner rolls.
"Of course, she was a sugar and carb freak herself. I never saw the woman eat any fresh salads, raw vegetables, or fruit, but she could sure pack away the rice, potatoes, pasta, and of course all desserts. She also suffered health problems from this sugar addiction.
"Thank you so much for writing this book. I tell everyone about it and urge them to read it."
Carolyn also shares great news that she "started cutting out sugar years ago" and that she "never" drinks sugary soda or diet soda.
"I stopped using sugar in my coffee many years ago — and never used sugar or sweeteners of any kind in iced tea, even when I was a child. I found that eliminating processed foods, especially boxed commercial cereals, was a big boon to my health.
"When I switched to a high protein whole foods breakfast, I felt much better and had more energy. Now I read labels all the time looking for hidden sugars, especially in foods like jarred soups, breads, etc."
Thank you, Carolyn, for kindly sharing your personal story. It just breaks my heart to hear your tragic tale, but I'm grateful and happy for you that you've forgiven your husband.
By the way, have you heard about recent research, which links sugar consumption with pancreatic cancer?
