Tooth Woes: Was My Root Canal Caused by My Former Sugar Habit?

Tooth-decay Take it from me. Years of having a sugar habit can wreak havoc on your teeth.

Looks like my past just caught up with me this week as I've been grappling with ferocious tooth, gum and jaw pain. After a sleepless, painful night, today was root canal day. Ugh!

Did I bring this on myself by eating so many hard candies and red licorice? Thank goodness in 1998, I was smart enough to quit, as you can read in my book SUGAR SHOCK!

Sure would have been nice if I'd followed this advice years ago.

It's certainly heartening to hear that countries such as Iceland are considering taxing sugary drinks.

I'm off to take a nap because I was up half the night in pain!

Tell us your sugar-triggered tooth horror stories! Let's comfort each other or commiserate.

  1. Toothaches are horrific…and root canals can be a pleasurable relief provided done by a good dentist. There is a phobia when concerned with this procedure which is baseless..

  2. Root canal also called endodontic treatment, it is the cleaning out the inside nerve of a tooth that is heavily decayed, and replacing it with a material seals the inside of the root so infection cannot get back in.
