A beer and a shot of whiskey are American as apple pie (to use a sugary reference!) and cholesterol-lowering drugs, but according to a new study in The American Journal of Medicine, Americans may be drinking less alcohol than ever before.
The research, according to WebMD, compiled 50 years of data from 8,600 white adults born between 1900 and 1950 living in
The results showed that men and women in each generation actually drank less than previous generations — a good thing, because the American Diabetes Association links alcohol consumption with diabetes complications.
When asked why there was a drop in drinking, lead researcher Yuqing Zhang, DSc, from the Boston University School of Medicine, told WebMD, “I really don’t know.”
Well, at least it’s a happy ending, but I doubt college kids are chugging kegs of soymilk and playing orange juice pong!
