The eminent Dr. David Ludwig — who I wrote about recently on this blog — was kind enugh to get back to me when I asked him what he thought of the new PepsiCo-funded soda study. He wrote:

"I’d need to see the study before making any comments.
However, the most common type of HFCS is basically chemically identical to table sugar, that is about 50% glucose and 50% fructose. And as an aside, there is little evidence to suggest that fructose (a main sugar of fruit) promotes weight gain more than glucose.
