Here’s another fascinating item. The Federal Communications Commission plans to study the link between all that TV watching and the rise in obesity, the AP reported.
The FCC even made a whole official announcement about it. Here’s what AP reporter Sam Hananel wrote:
"Small children can’t weed out the marketing messages from their favorite shows," FCC Chairman Kevin Martin said Wednesday at a news conference. "Especially when the marketing campaigns feature favorite TV characters like SpongeBob or Scooby-Doo."
Interesting.
Frankly, I think it would be heck of a lot easier to just ban TV commercials for all that junk food. In fact, as I learned while researching my book SUGAR SHOCK!, we here in the U.S. are way behind the times. In a bunch of countries in Europe, they have all kinds of rules and regulations to keep nutritiion-poor foods off the boob tube.
