Here’s some hopeful, heartening news for folks who shed a lot of pounds.
Overweight Americans (white men, white women, and black women) who lose considerable weight tend to build more wealth after they’ve slimmed down, according to a study from Ohio State University’s Center for Human Resource Research.
"The typical person who loses or gains a few pounds had almost no change in wealth, but those who lost or gained large amounts of weight had a more dramatic change," said research scientist Jay Zagorsky, who headed up the study, which appeared in the May 2005 issue of Economics & Human Biology
You gotta love this!
- White women who reduced their BMI by 10 points took in $11,880 more.
- White men who had a similiar BMI decrease had a wealth increase of $12,720.
- And black woman pulled in another $4,480.
I’d say this is just another motivation to cut out the crappy carbs and sugary foods to lose weight, right?
