Thanks to Tom from my free, online KickSugar group, who alerted us to a special URL, where you can hear a talk from Dr. Neal Barnard, when he discusses the addictive qualities of chocolate, sugar, cheese, and meat.
Dr. Barnard — who I interviewed for my upcoming book, SUGAR SHOCK! — points out that willpower is not to blame. Rather, he refers to some recent research, which suggests that sugar can release opiate-like substances, thereby hooking us.
Check out what he says at the beginning about capturing a baby’s attention with sucrose. (Sad!)
Dr. Barnard — founder of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine — also discusses how the food industry, aided by the government, explots these natural cravings, which, in turn, push us to eat more of these unhealthy junk foods.
The video, from Oct. 14, 2003, comes courtesy of VegSource Interactive, Inc. Even if you don’t agree with Dr. Barnard’s views that a plant-based diet is the way to eat, you’ll be intrigued, I believe, by his remarks.
