McDonald’s Reintroduces Jumbo Drinks? (Second Take)

I was really glad to see that one of my favorite health websites — always full of cutting edge information — also pounced on this horrendously unhealthy soda super-sizing development at McDonald’s in Chicago.

As mentioned previously here, the fast-food giant reintroduced the outrageously huge (42-ounce) soda at outlets in the Windy City.

Granted it was only a local promotion slated to conclude at the end of this month, but this is simply scandalous, given the nation’s soaring rates of obesity and diabetes.

Again, allow me to repeat the remarkable comment made by a Chicago McDonald’s official: "This is not super-sizing."

Excuse me, but what planet is this spokesperson from? Certainly not Venus nor Mars.

This jumbo soda offering should not be happening at any locations, especially in light of the chain’s claims of caring about people’s health. Yeah, right. Why even bother then to introduce such healthier fare as salad entrées and fruit options?

The McDonald’s main office should wield a lot more control over upstart franchisees with horrific ideas such as these. (By the way, to get the humongous drink, you have to pig out first by buying a Big Mac and fries.)

There’s no way getting around this irrefutable fact: It’s simply bad PR — and horrible for your health — to drink a 42-ounce Coca-Cola. As mercola.com so aptly pointed out, the full-sugar version packs in 410 calories, "a shade more than 20 percent of the daily average adult caloric intake for men and almost a third of a woman’s typical intake. Yikes!"
