Kids and their diets will be on the minds of attendees at the 4th Annual Conference on Legal Approaches to the Obesity Epidemic, held Nov. 3 to 5 in Boston by the Public Health Advocacy Institute.
The keynote speaker will be the always-articulate and insightful Marion Nestle, author of the recently published What to Eat and the Paulette Goddard Professor of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health at New York University. (She also wrote the fascinating books, Food Politics and Safe Food: Bacteria, Biotechnology, and Bioterrorism.)
The program — titlled "Targeting Kids: The Food Industry and Children’s Diets" — is intended for advocates, policy makers, public health lawyers, nutritionists and scientists interested in learning more about policy, school administrators and food service directors, school counsel, food industry representatives, advertisers, children’s organizations, consumer organizations, and academics.
Presentations and "strategic conversations" will be held on:
- "Future litigation and legislative targets;
- "Identifying key public health intervention points;
- "Building a national movement for effective public health policy around obesity."
"Topics to be covered will include the ABA/Clinton Agreement on soda in schools, ongoing litigation, state legistlative efforts, and more."

This sounds like a worthwhile event for those of you interested in health, nutrition, public policy, and potential litigation. If I can get a press pass, I’ll attend.
