This website’s origins actually began in the cereal aisle of a supermarket in Teaneck, New Jersey. Don’t you love it?
As co-founders Joan Myron Wendy Hillard-Green share on the About Us page, Joan was hunting for a whole grain cereal "that wouldn’t taste like cardboard." Nearby, she noticed another woman, Wendy, also scoping out the ingredients panel.
That led to the two of them becoming weight loss buddies, which entailed going on long walks together, telling each other what they were eating, giving pep talks to help them stay on track (especially during holidays), trying recipes, and ultimately losing weight — 25 for Joan and 30 for Wendy.
Their Weight Loss Buddy website is intended " to help other people find the same support that was critical to our weight loss success."
If you want a buddy, you know where to go now.
Wendy and Joan’s story reminds me of mine. Because I had almost no support when I stopped eating sweets and refined carbs on doctor’s orders in 1998 (other than occasional phone calls with one person), I began my free, online, international KickSugar group in Nov. 2002.
My goal in founding KickSugar wa to provide the kind of nurturing, encouragement, and motivation that I never had.
