World’s Leading Experts to Discuss Metabolic Syndrome at October Conference

Fifty of the world’s foremost experts on metabolic syndrome (also called insulin resistance syndrome and syndrome X) will hold the 5th Annual World Congress on the Insulin Resistance Syndrome in Boston from October 10 through October 13, Newsmax.com reports.

Studies have shown that metabolic syndrome increases the risk of developing a host of very serious and sometimes life-threatening ailments — type 2 diabetes, stroke, coronary heart disease, Alzheimer’s, liver disease, polycystic ovarian syndrome (which can cause infertility) and several types of cancer. “This metabolic disorder underlies some of the deadliest and most costly diseases in the U.S. An early intervention for prevention is critical,” said Dr. Yehuda Handelsman of the Metabolic Institute of America, according to the Newsmax.com story.
