See this well-researched article in tomorrow’s New York Times Magazine from prolific writer Lisa Belkin about what’s being done at schools across the country to improve school lunches.
Hurrah to the New York Times for drawing attention to this important subject when 17 % of our nation’s children are overweight, the obesity rate of adolescents has triped since 1980, and some 30 to 40 percent are expected to develop diabetes (according to the CDC) if the trend continues.
Unfortunately, I really can’t write more about this right now, because my thumb is horribly throbbing and hurting.

I saw your post regarding Lisa Belkin’s article in the New York Times Magazine. Earlier this week, I read a copy of her article in The Amherst Times.
I have a website on sweet potatoes at http://www.All-About-Sweet-Potatoes.com. It’s informative, educational and provides access to thousands of free recipes. I must confess that one of my family’s favorite traditional holiday dishes is a “sugar-shocker” — marshmallow pecan sweet potato casserole.
Note from Conine:
Ellen, you cracked me up, because I’m thinking a bit about sweet potatoes these days, because that’ss how I nearly nipped off the tip of my finger! Why don’t you send me 2 or 3 recipes for sweet potatoes that do NOT contain any sugar, marshmallow, etc., and I’ll post them on my website or blog? Connie
