Beyonce Admits Folly of Maple Syrup Diet

This piece is overdue. I was about to post this a few days ago before I inadvertantly sliced off the top of my thumb

Beyonce Knowles publicly denounced the the maple-syrup based liquid diet that she followed to quickly lose lose 20 pounds for her role in the movie Dreamgirls.

"I would not recommend it if someone wasn’t doing a movie, because there are other ways to lose weight," the singer, 24, told Kate Garraway of Britain’s GMTV morning show when quizzed about rumors that she’d lost weight for the film on this sugar-filled regimen.

Well, that’s nice that Beyonce saw the folly of her ways — but unfortunately, now other people who want to lose weight are trying to learn more about the potentially dangerous sugar-filled diet, which reportedly involves drinking maple syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and water for up to 10 times a day.

Oh, horrors!

"I would not recommend it if someone wasn’t doing a movie, because there are other ways to lose weight," Beyonce said, a story also picked up by People’s Monique Jessen.

Oh, pleeeeaaaaasssseeee. I wouldn’t evern recommend such a potentially health-havoc-creating regimen to anyone, whether you’re going to do a movie or not!

The irony is that after Beyonce quickly lost the weight, she says she then put it back on "…so I am no smaller or bigger than I’ve always been. It was strictly for the movie."

Eeks! What can I say? I’ve already written about the folly of a maple syrup diet a almost exactly a year ago when actress Rachel McAdams ("Red Eye") cited maple syrup as a diet secret.

At the time, I tried without success to educate the actress about the dangers of such a diet and ran this item, when I interviewed experts: What’s the story with maple syrup?

…Gotta go now back to the hospital to get the medical verdict on how my thumb is healing. Well, at least, while painful, it’s not as painful as it was the last three days.
