With all the recent complaints about Splenda’s deceptive advertising campaign, you might still be confused as to whether or not the artificial sweetener is safe.
Before you continue to use Splenda, I urge you to start reading about it first.
Today, I urge you to check out Dr. Mercola’s interesting article, "The Secret Dangers of Splenda (Sucralose), an Artificial Sweetener."
.In it, he make some important points:
1. That only six human trials on Splenda have been undertaken.
2. That the longest trial lasted three months.
3. That, despite claims about it having 0 calories, "at LEAST 15% of Splenda is not excreted from your body in a timely manner."
Dr. Mercola—who runs the # 1 natural health website, www.mercola.com website—then makes the compelling observation:
"Considering that Splenda bears more chemical similarity to DDT than it does to sugar, are you willing to bet your health on this data?…"
He also argues that if you think the FDA is protecting us and would never allow a toxic substance into the market, then mull over the fact that they didn’t identify Vioxx as too dangerous to be on the market. "This mistake cost 55,000 people their lives," he aptly points out.
Thanks to Dr. Mercola for digging up this intriguing, enlightening information.

Splenda has been used for decades in other countries and there have been no reported side effects.
I don’t understand all the concern here with Splenda. If you are afraid of it, don’t use it. Use sugar. All that will do is rot your teeth and bring on Type II diabetes.
There are lots of things wrong w/ Splenda including, but not limited to, the manmade chlorine in the product. We’ve found that many of the company’s claims about its safety are, at the very least, misleading. Many of the claims are false…plain and simple.
Additionally, because these sweeteners are not recognized as food by our bodies, we continue to seek nourishment and often get cravings for less healthy carbohydrates. This leads to weight gain for many people.
They also create a need for the unnatural sweetness they create. Hmmm…sounds familiar……company’s creating products that lead to a continued “need” for the product.
There are lots of safe alternatives starting w/ turbinado or raw sugar, barley malt, agave nectar, stevia, …….
Personally, even before I discovered the extensive information available about splenda and aspartame, I always noticed an odd headache that occurred each time I used splenda in my coffee.
There are lots of places to find further info on splenda including http://www.issplendasafe.com.
Finally, depending on how each government handles reports surrounding food products there’s no way to really know how many complaints are out there. Case in point, the FDA…..

Thanks, Lucy, for writing. By the way, after doing research, I disagree with your comments regarding safe alternatives. Will get into it later — no time right now, because I’m at a conference. Connie
Nice job. I’m planning to come back here in the future.
I wish people who didn’t know what they were talking about would shutup and stop misleading the public themselves. I’ll put splenda in my body any day over aspartame, high fructose corn syrup, or cane sugar. It’s all bad for you in some way. Hell, even going outside on a sunny day is bad for you. What really needs to happen is for people to use this stuff in MODERATION. Don’t eat Splenda directly from the bag with a spoon and I’ll bet you live to be 100 years old.
WARNING: Author edits posts that she dosen’t agree with. Splenda is safe. I’m living proof. I’ve lost 5 pounts in a month by switching cola for tea lightly sweetened with Splenda. I’m still alive and I don’t have cancer or brain damage.
NOTE from Connie: What makes you think I edit posts? It’s your decision whether or not you consume Splenda. I’m a journalist, and I’ve interviewed a number of experts who question its safety. Besides, the dangers may come out over time, years down the road. So you have no way of knowing if it’s safe. I’m just flat-out wary of sweeteners so heavily processed and artificial. Did you read my posts about Splenda and the chemicals it contains. Connie
I was hospitalised multiple times over a period of 2 years with a strange stomach upset. After heaps of inconclusive tests, I decided to stop eating fake sugar. I already avoided other fake sugars, so I figured I’d stop eating Splenda too. It worked. No more troubles.
One day years later I started getting the pains again. I then realized the health bar I had eaten that day had Splenda (aka Sucralose) as an ingredient. It’s in everything, from health bars to mouth wash, so just be careful. Obviously it won’t affect everyone the way it did me, but if you start getting unexplained tummy upsets, consider removing Splenda from your diet and see if it subsides.
