Processed, “Convenience” Foods: Why Bother?

Processed foods, you well know, are loaded in sugar, calories and fat and have less nutrients and fiber. Now a new study in the British Food Journal verifies that these "convenience foods" don’t even get to your meal to the table sooner. (In short, they’re not as convenient as we’ve been led to believe.)

Plus, researchers at UCLA’s Center on Everyday Lives of Families, who videotaped four days in the homes of 32 working families in Los Angeles, found that using ready-made or quick-to-prepare meals (as specified on a package) aren’t nearly as nutritious as real foods.

For instance, the meals were short on vegetables and fruits. (That’s, of course, no surprise to those of us who urge people to eat less packaged food and more "real food.")
