End-of-Summer Fun – Watch Out for Nature-Loving, Disease-Carrying Ticks

As many of you restless, must-have-time-off vacationers venture out into nature, the wilderness or the beach for one last summer hurrah, I encourage you to be careful.
Don’t lie on the grass, run barefoot in fields or get too affectionate or up close and personal with any trees.
You may think me a nature spoil sport, but, as I discovered much to my shock two years ago, it’s imperative that you’re watchful for those nature-loving, disease-carrying ticks, which can transmit Lyme disease, a confusing malady that may give you mysterious ailments such as mental confusion, fatigue and muscle pains.
Learn about this often-misunderstood disease in my recent AOL News op ed piece.
Unfortunately, many people are ignorant about these freckle-sized dangers that lurk in nature.
In fact, last night, on a conference call for a transformational women’s program that I’m taking, one of the women with whom I was partnered up with in a group literally laughed when recommended that she be careful of ticks when she goes off into the wilds in Holland.
Given that I’d been working on my next book, Beyond Sugar Shock, into the wee hours (shame on me!), I was too tired to plead with her to take me seriously, but lo and behold, I just discovered that Lyme disease is on the rise in Holland.
So I urge you, if you do go out into nature this Labor Day weekend, make sure to carefully inspect yourself for ticks after you return from grassy areas. You do not want to suffer the way millions have, as you can read about in my AOL News op ed piece.
On another matter entirely, if you yearn to let go of your sugar habit, tomorrow is the deadline for the Early Bird End-of-Summer Special for my upcoming Break Free of Your Sugar Addiction in 6 Weeks Program. This is a six-week mind/body/spirit, sugar-releasing program that will give you lectures, coaching, mini-audio messages all 42 days, guest interviews, several bonus audios, some 50 ways to combat sugar cravings, help to disover your Sugar Color Code, access to a private membership website, a shopping list, meal plans and more. (FYI, I’ve been developing this program for years.)
Why bother to kick sugar since it tastes so darn good? Well, as millions can testify, cutting out sweets and simple carbs is a very quick path to weight loss. The extra pounds just peel right off when you not consuming those quickie-carb “treats.” Plus, if you Break Free of Your Sugar Addiction, you may get more energy, better relationships, a better libido and many other benefits.

Sugar Shock Defined

Often, just about whenever journalists, radio hosts or TV reporters interview me, they ask me what I mean by the phrase “Sugar Shock.”
As you can guess, I’ve thought about this a log, given that I wrote a book called Sugar Shock!
Here’s how I define Sugar Shock.
Bear in mind that this Sugar Shock is a condition that afflicts millions of people
worldwide, including possibly as high as 80 percent to 90 percent of the U.S. population.
SUGAR SHOCK™ – A mood-damaging, personality-bending, health-destroying, confusion-creating constellation of symptoms affecting millions of people worldwide, who often turn to processed sweets and much-like-sugar carbs, which send their blood sugar levels wildly soaring and plummeting.
These people are suffering from what they may call sugar addiction or carb addiction.
The term Sugar Shock is intended to encompass the often-misdiagnosed and maligned
condition of reactive hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), as well as other blood sugar disorders,
from insulin resistance to diabetes.
Considerable research reveals that repeatedly overconsuming sweeteners, dessert foods,
and culprit, quickie carbs (such as white rice, French bread, chips, etc.) wreaks havoc on
your blood sugar levels, overstimulates insulin release, triggers inflammation, and
could contribute to more than 150 health problems, including obesity, diabetes, heart
disease, cancer, polycystic ovary syndrome, severe PMS, failing memory, depression,
mental confusion or “brain fog,” mood swings, Candida, sexual dysfunction, infertility,
wrinkles, acne, and early aging.
Victims of Sugar Shock also may experience such baffling symptoms as excessive fatigue,
headaches, dizziness, cold sweats, anxiety, irritability, tremors, crying spells, drowsiness or
the opposite (sleeplessness), forgetfulness, heart palpitations, nightmares, blurred vision,
muscle pains, temper outbursts, suicidal thoughts, and more.
Ultimately, this insidious Sugar Shock roller-coaster effect brought on by eating
too many inferior carbs hampers sufferers’ ability to function at full throttle–or even
half throttle.

Male Models Starve, Binge, Suck Sweets & More

Thanks to the Times Online, you can learn about the self-abuse that some male models inflict.
Get ready to be shocked. As the Times Online tells us:
“Daniel Martin regularly puts his body through hell. For days at a time he restricts fluid intake so severely that the resulting dehydration causes headaches, haziness and overwhelming fatigue. Having trained for weeks like an Olympian with high-intensity circuits, running and weightlifting, he then cuts out exercise for 48 hours and opens a bottle of red wine to drink alone. A six-day carbohydrate-depletion diet, in which he eats little more than chicken and broccoli, leaves his muscles weak and his brain so starved of glycogen, its source of fuel, that he feels dizzy and disorientated when he stands up. He can barely walk, let alone hit the gym. And the reason for this torturous ritual of self-deprivation? Martin is preparing to bare his abs in a photoshoot for the cover of one of Britain’s top-selling men’s magazines.”
The shocking story continues. Please note that the bold face is mine:
“At 33, Martin is a veteran of the fitness model circuit, his finely etched torso having gleamed from the pages of Men’s Health, the market leader, more often than that of any other cover model. He has the body and looks that epitomise what men (and women) have come to perceive as the pinnacle of masculine attractiveness. Part of the allure is that this Adonis-like beauty is seen as somehow attainable through hard work and a sensible diet. While female models are criticised for fuelling the rise in eating disorders by looking underweight, their male counterparts have largely escaped such adverse scrutiny. By and large, we have collectively assumed that those rippling abs represent the result of the kind of gym-dedication and healthy living that can only be admired. Behind the abs, though, is a far from wholesome reality.”

Stop Sugar Shock Support Group is Moving Because Ning is Charging – Need Your Ideas

Smart savvy people, we need your help!
We have to find a new free online home for our free Stop Sugar Shock support group and social network. Please give us your ideas.
Here’s the history in brief.
Since 2002, I’ve been offering free support to sugar addicts, hypoglycemics and diabetics.
Initially, we began at Yahoo in KickSugar, where for years, in a warm, inspiring climate, Assistant Moderators and I gave members encouragement, nurturing and motivating words. All the while, the group grew from a handful of members to over 2,000 members.
For my part, KickSugar was a huge focus of mine, and I spent hours to answer questions (often doing research to get answers), hired nutrition experts to answer questions, give guidance, etc. In addition, members gave each other vital support and kindness.
You’re invited to still join Yahoo in KickSugar, because you’ll get lots of helpful emails upon becoming a member. But discussions are no longer held there.
In 2007, after my first book Sugar Shock! came out and much of my time was devoted to giving radio and TV interviews, writing many articles, helping readers, developing programs and more, I turned KickSugar into an announcement site because I just didn’t have time to run it as an discussion group. It then spawned an offshoot group, StopSugarAddiction, with my blessing and help.
Soon after I turned KickSugar into a support group, it began to get plagued by non-related spam, which made running the group a real challenge.
Recently, I moved KickSugar to two places.
First, my friend and sugar-addiction expert/colleague James Hahn II renamed KickSugar to Stop Sugar Shock and moved the group over to Ning to get more functionality. (We’re still seeking people to help us run it.)
In addition, I formed the Smart Habits Fans on Facebook. Please join us there, where you can get daily Smart Habits Tips.
While we had been planning to stay put at Ning, on Tuesday, Ning announced that that all free services are being phased out.
I hope you can understand my resistance to paying again for a service to help people for free.
I always want to offer FREE services to those who cannot afford my private or group coaching or Break Free of Your Sugar Addiction in 6 Weeks Program. By the way, you can get lots of FREE STUFF over at my SugarShock.com website.
Although Ning offers low monthly prices, it’s the principle of the thing. I do not want to pay to give help for free.
So I need your help. Where can we move Stop Sugar Shock? What site has all kinds of functionalities so we can post videos and photos, have a conversational thread. Please check out Stop Sugar Shock over at Ning andSmart Habits Fans at Facebook.
Then please give us your ideas. Also, once we find a place, we’d like some volunteers to help us run it.
Please help me to continue to help people for free at a place that’s free.
Thank you very much for your assistance.
