Parents, Give Fun, Glow-in-the-Dark Objects & Other Fun Stuff This Halloween, and Encourage Your Kids to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Halloween can still be a blast for your kids and those of your neighbor even if you don’t give out candy, as I pointed out last Friday on this blog.

In fact, it saddens and alarms me that we’ve been so conditioned to think of candy the minute we conjure up images of a night of Halloween fun.

Well, apparently editors at a number of major websites are thrilled with my tips to give out goofy gifts and other party favors rather than sweets. It’s been quite gratifying that one outlet after another has picked up my story, "Don’t Spook Kids By Giving Non-Nutritious Candy This Halloween! Hand Out Fun, Glow-in-the-Dark Objects, Stickers & Other Party Favors Instead."

The following websites are now running my article about giving fun, non-sugary gifts for Halloween:

Help me spread the word that you don’t need to give out candy on Halloween to have fun.

Another Hot Halloween Idea: Collect Donations for UNICEF

In addition to giving out fun party favors, I also encourage parents to invite their kids to think charitably. Indeed, encourage them to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.

Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

As I discovered yesterday at a Hallmark’s store, you can pick up UNICEF Trick-or-Treat boxes at selected card stores, or you can order supplies online. To join the Original KIDS HELPING KIDS® campaign, just click here, or go to unicefusa.org/trickortreat.

What’s really cool about this program is that, as the UNICEF website points out, "Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has evolved from a traditional door-to-door collection on Halloween into a month-long program that has educated, inspired and empowered kids to make a difference in the lives of children who are less fortunate. Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF supporters have collected more than $132 million since that [initial] night in 1950."

The UNICEF story is a fascinating one. Back in World War II, Philadelphia children became inspired and motivated by reports about children suffering in Europe that they showed such goodwill that they went door-to-door Halloween night to collect money for their peers overseas.
