Another Exciting Weekend at Institute for Integrative Nutrition

Another exciting weekend at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I’m going to school.

We covered so much ground and heard from more fascinating speakers.

Perhaps my favorite part of this weekend were the talks by Sally Fallon, president and treasurer of the Weston A. Price Foundation, and the one by compulsive overeating expert Geneen Roth, who for more than two decades has been writing and teaching about hunger, pleasure, deprivation and healing in all aspects of life.

Also a journalist, chef, nutrition researcher, homemaker, and community activist, Sally Fallon became intrigued by nutrition after reading dentist Weston A. Price’s Nutrition and Physical Degeneration, first published by in 1939. Called the "Charles Darwin of Nutrition," Dr. Price traveled the world over studying healthy primitive populations and their diets.

Sally gave an engrossing talk about how Dr. Price’s travels led him to learn how wholesome foods led to abundant health and more. Sally–who I had the pleasure to meet just as she was leaving on Saturday– also is author of Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and the Diet Dictocrats.

Earlier in the day, Geneen Roth–who had a number of us both laughing and teary-eyed as she recounted her own distressing travails with dieting–delivered an amazing, impassioned talk about how dieting can be disastrous. She then delved into her Seven Steps to Break Free From Emotional Eating.

Geneen–author of When Food is Love and six other books–has worked hard to help women (mostly) get over their dangerous dieting practices and put food in its proper place. She’s appeared on dozens of TV shows including Oprah and Good Morning America. (So it was a rare treat to get to hear her live.)

I cannot rave enough about Geneen’s talk. If you have any kinds of struggles with overeating sweets or refined carbs or even under-eating, I strongly recommend that you check out her workshops.

So that you can get to hear exciting speakers like this and become a holistic health counselor yourself, check out the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. If you do sign up to attend, tell them Connie (the SUGAR SHOCK! author) sent you.
