David Wolfe, Dr. Marion Nestle, Dr. Neal Barnard & More Amazing Speakers at Institute for Integrative Nutrition

Wow!

Just had the most amazing weekend at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I’m studying to become a holistic health counselor!

I’m too exhausted — but also exhilarated to write much — but suffice it to say that we had some amazing speakers, two of whom I had interviewed for my upcoming book, SUGAR SHOCK!

We were educated, inspired and brought up to date on cutting edge info by:

  • Marion Nestle, Ph.D., M.P.H.: Being able to hear this incredible crusader — head of the nutrition program at New York University — in person was such a rare treat, especially since I had the pleasure of interviewing her over the phone for my book SUGAR SHOCK! Dr. Nestle has done such great, great work as an outspoken citizen’s advocate. In fact, she’s so influential that some people or organizations (generally funded by the junk food industry) dub her a "nutrition nanny," which she graciously finds humorous. Check out Dr. Nestle’s mind-blowing books, Food Politics and Safe Food. And keep a lookout her new book, What to Eat, due in bookstores May 2006.
  • Neal Barnard, M.D.: Our huge group of 1,100 also heard a compelling talk from Dr. Barnard, founder and president of the Physicians Committe for Responsible Medicine and one of America’s leading advocates for health, nutrition, and higher standards in research. I also had the pleasure to interview Dr. Barnard for my book — he discussed some of the ideas that he presents in his eye-opening book, The Food Seduction. You can read here for more information.
  • David Wolfe: Our final speaker of the weekend was this charismatic, electrifying raw-food proponent. You should have seen how frantically people were taking copious notes. You won’t have as much fun as we did, but you can learn a ton of information by buying his books, Eating for Beauty and Naked Chocolate.

If any of you out there are interested in getting a comprehensive, innovative overview of various nutrition theories, I daresay you’ll be blown away by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City.

Not only are the lectures interesting, but the people you meet at the school are really wonderful.
