Obesity in North Carolina: Grossly Underestimated

If you ever needed convincing about the power of denial, recent poll results out of North Carolina should put your doubts to rest, according to a story that recently appeared on Carolina Newswire.

While 26.6 percent of North Carolina residents are obese, only three percent classified themselves as such, according to the Brogan Survey, a statewide market research poll of 600 North Carolina residents.

In other words, the actual obesity rate is 800 percent higher than state residents would like to believe.

North Carolinians are also off the mark when it comes to their children, according to survey findings. While over 19 percent of children there are overweight or obese, only 10 percent of parents indicated as much.
