Sugar Fire Still Burning in Georgia

Isn’t this tragic? A week after the deadly Feb. 7 sugar refinery explosion in Georgia, the obstinate fire is still burning, the AP reported today.

What more, the death toll at the Imperial Sugar Plant Co. has now climbed to eight.

The AP explained that dozens of fireworkers weren’t enough.

"Local crews had to call in a specialized team with powerful equipment to assault the silo fires, where thick masses of molten sugar were still smoldering even after a helicopter dumped thousands of gallons of water."

As if sugar isn’t bad enough when you over-consume it (as I reveal in my book SUGAR SHOCK!).

Now this sugar blast — which was likely caused by sugar dust — shows that working in a processing plant can be quite dangerous, too. Very, very sad.
