Grateful for You

It’s Connie here to tell you that I’m VERY grateful to you, dear readers.
I really appreciate your support so that I can continue to serve you.
Now that it’s the holiday season, I feel that I want to tell you how grateful I am.
Grateful, as www.Dictionary.com tells us, means you’re “warmly Or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received.”
YOU, dear readers, are so important to me.
Because of YOU and 1) your willingness to learn, 2) your open-mindedness, 3) your desire to have a happier, healthier life and 4) your spreading the word about this Sugar Shock Blog, my book SUGAR SHOCK! and my coaching services, I can continue to help YOU and many more to break free of this health-harming, mood-dampening addiction to sugar, refined carbs, artificial sweeteners and other bad habits
(or what I call babits™).
So thank you, YOU magnificent creature, YOU.
I love you, and as “Think Big” author Michael Port puts it, “not in a weird way.”
YOU Special One, I’m also here to remind you to remember that YOU are a wonderful, special, dazzling person with so great qualities.
So for the holidays through the end of the year, I invite you to remember to treasure your glorious body, which has been here for you no matter what.
When was the last time you thanked your body for all it does for you?
Let me gently suggest that you think twice before putting junk foods and sugar-filled, calorie-packed drinks into your body this holiday season, OK?
Before you slip a sweet “treat” into your mouth or nosh on fake, junk foods (that are artificially sweetened or filled with dyes and other additives), why not ask yourself, “What does my wonderful body really want?”I do hope that this post inspires you to treat your body like the temple it is. Wishing you all a fabulous rest of the year!

Crush Your Cravings

Delay to Conquer Sugar, Caffeine & Other Unhealthy Cravings

Often, readers of my book SUGAR SHOCK!, participants in my Break Free programs or fans on Facebook want to know, “How do I kick sugar, caffeine or other bad habits? This is so hard!”
I feel empathy, compassion and sadness for these people, because at varying times in my life, I’ve been there myself, battling a host of bad habits, including addiction to sugar, refined carbs, diet soda, coffee, cigarettes and sugar-less gum.
Over the years, I’ve developed numerous tactics to conquer counter-productive routines, but in 1998, while quitting sweets and refined carbs on doctor’s orders, I came up with my best techniques.
In my book SUGAR SHOCK!, I share my Top 21 Sweet Sugar-Free Success Secrets and Strategies (plus a few more). Now, I’d like to share one tactic, which can be effective to help you conquer sugar, caffeine and other unhealthy cravings. Here’s an article I wrote to help you learn this invaluable technique.
Just Delay to Squash Your Sugar, Caffeine & Other Unhealthy Cravings
Creatively Procrastinate Your Way Out of Your Addictions
By Connie Bennett, M.S.J., C.H.H.C.
Quite often, people who want to kick sugar, curtail caffeine, stop drinking diet soda, lose weight or manage their diabetes ask me: “How can I conquer my cravings for these substances? Once I start, I just can’t help myself.”
One of the most powerful and potent strategies is so simple that you’ll wonder why you never tried it in the first place. Simply DELAY before you do anything – especially something that you’ll later regret.
Think about it: Most of us are pretty darn good at delaying or procrastinating, right?
You know how you keep putting off organizing your desk drawers, cleaning the house, giving your boss that proposal, helping your kids with their homework, donating old clothes or taking out the garbage? Clearly, we all have things we’ve been planning on doing but never got around to doing.
While quitting a bad habit such as a sugar addiction, I’ve found that you can actually transform delaying into something that’s fun, clever and positive. In other words, procrastinating can be a good thing — even wonderful.

Frequently, I hear from readers of SUGAR SHOCK! In fact, of the hundreds of emails I receive daily, those from readers are the most heart warming.

Kim [I changed her name to protect her privacy] from Michigan wrote:

Yesterday, I received my copy of ‘Sugar Shock’ in the mail and I promise to do those things that freed you from a life of shame. My husband will reap all the benefits of having a much happier wife. We have been right at the door of divorce for almost 19 yrs. [He] has tried everything to get rid of this dark cloud of depression! Thank you, Connie for being our answer to prayer. Sincerely, [name], a trampled housewife, in Michigan”

Slipped? Destroyed Your Diet? 7 Tips to Get Back on Track

Often, whenever I give a talk, I hear from people who started eating sugar again and who wanted some guidance. Here’s an article I wrote to help them — and you — if you fell off the no-sweets wagon.
Slipped? Destroyed Your Diet? 7 Tips to Get Back on Track
By Connie Bennett, CHHC
Did you fall off the diet wagon? Did you eat foods you promised to forego? Are you upset with yourself for “stupidly” eating sugary or fast-acting carbs?
Time and time again, my clients and readers of my book SUGAR SHOCK!complain to me about how they stumbled and fell down yete again. They desperately want to know how to get out of their muck and kick sugar, refined carbs and other horrible habits — and for good this time.
Here are 7 tips to pick yourself up and get back on track and finally succeed.
1. Be gentle with yourself. If you slip and forego your good intentions, this is not the time to berate and belittle yourself. Instead use this “mistake” to lavish yourself with compassion, understanding and sympathy. Yes, you messed up, but your’re human so give yourself a break!
2. Accept that you’re imperfect. People with food issues and unhealthy habits often tend to expect themselves to get everything exactly right–or perfect. That sets you up for a huge letdown. Now that you’ve slipped, use this as a chance to claim your humanity, which means you’ll make mistakes from time to time. Owning up to your limitations can be quite freeing.
3. Consider this a golden opportunity to start again. Instead of viewing your falling off the wagon as the most horrible dieting disaster or other fatal error that never should have happened, regard your slip as a chance to begin anew. You see, whenever you make a so-called “mistake” such as this, this could be exactly what you need! Think about it: Aren’t you always more psyched when you begin a project?
4. View your slip as a learning experience. Falling off the no-sugar, no-coffee or no-more-late-nights wagon could be just the instructive incident that you need to to break out of your habit. So be thankful (yes, you heard me right — thankful!) that you “sinned” and ate those junk foods, swigged caffeine like it was going out of style or burned the midnight oil. Now study yourself dispassionately like a lab rat to see just how much damage you caused yourself by slipping. Doing so will enable you to develop deeper resolve to boldly move forward with conviction and finally succeed.
